Kids At Risk

The odds are stacked against thousands of K-W kids: economic hardship, trouble at home and at school, run-ins with the law and even prison. Without help, many of these kids will end up acting out in frustration and violence. But it doesn't have to be this way. Kids at risk are not kids at fault. There is a way to even the odds for our children and teens.

K-W Counselling Services has developed proven techniques and programs that improve the outcome for these kids at risk. Research shows that parenting style is the critical factor affecting the well-being of a child. A positive parenting style can even overpower such risk factors as poverty and education. We support parents until they succeed. We are passionate about seeing kids thrive. We do all this by reaching deeply into the heart of the community with hands-on support. We build confidence. We teach skills to handle difficult situations. Parents learn the do's and don'ts to help children grow socially, emotionally and intellectually. But we need your help!

Gifts from a generous community have made it possible for us to work with a lot of kids at risk in Kitchener-Waterloo. But we're reaching only a small fraction of those at risk! Please help us even the odds by making a significant contribution to this campaign.

Ways to help:

• $1,500 helps a family torn apart to recover together.
• $1,000 saves a family in crisis from splitting apart.
• $750 guides a single parent to handle the frustrations of caring for a young child.
• $500 helps a child and parent tame their tempers and turn neglect to nurture.
• $250 lets a teen blow off steam safely and get back on track.
• $150 gives parents the skills and knowledge to encourage success as a child moves out into the world.
