An End of Year Message

posted by Rebecca Webb

A single mother recovering from domestic abuse;
A newcomer family looking to learn about parenting in a Canadian context;
A transgender youth looking for support and a social network;
A business looking for training on diversity and inclusion.

As we have been there for our community, our community has been there for us.

As we celebrate our 70th anniversary, I’d like to thank all the individuals, families, businesses, and foundations that help to make our work possible. I’d also like to thank our community partners who work alongside us. Finally, I’d like to give a very special thanks to our staff and volunteers who work so tirelessly to make such a difference.

This has been an extremely challenging year but we are proud to have been part of so many stories of hope and resilience. For those in our community who were already coping with depression or anxiety, addictions or substance use, or healing from trauma or abuse, things have been that much more difficult. I’d like to thank and congratulate my staff here at KW Counselling Services for doing a tremendous job in the face of so many pressures.

Throughout the spring and summer we continued to provide counselling service by phone and online, and as soon as it was safe to do so we were back in the building to see some clients in person. Though we already offered video counselling, we had a lot to learn about providing all of our services virtually. Our parenting education courses, OK2BME youth groups, and Strong Moms, Safe Kids group all moved into virtual spaces. I’m very proud that we were able to continue to serve the community during these difficult times.

Your gifts throughout the year — and during this giving season — are crucial to our being able to continue to provide counselling services, parenting education and supports, and community development programs here in Waterloo Region. Thank you for helping us work towards a community where no one is left behind.
