Mental Health Week 2020

posted by KWCS Staff

Mental Health Week is May 4-10.

Remember, social connection protects and promotes good mental health. That’s why this year’s Mental Health Week is about real connection. Sometimes, we say “we’re fine” when the truth is something else. This week is about getting real with connection. When someone asks how you are doing, it is OK to give them an answer about your real feelings.

If someone gets real with you about their feelings, try to make an effort to connect. Acknowledge how they are feeling. Are you feeling the same?

Connection is so important that it is one of the five Ways to Mental Wellbeing. The five Ways have been adopted by the Mental Wellness Network of Waterloo Region. You can read more about Connecting, and the other Ways, here.

If you’d like to connect with one of our counsellors, we’re here for you. You can call us at 519.884.0000 to get started, but there is a waiting list for service.

While you’re waiting, you might consider checking out Big White Wall. This is an online support environment for people looking for help with depression and anxiety and it is free to all Ontarians: https://www.bigwhitewall.com/

If you’re experiencing a mental health crisis, we recommend you call Here 24/7 at 1.844.437.3247.
