Remember, social connection protects and promotes good mental health. That’s why this year’s Mental Health Week is about real connection. Sometimes, we say “we’re fine” when the truth is something else. This week is about getting real with connection. When someone asks how you are doing, it is OK to give them an answer about your real feelings.

If someone gets real with you about their feelings, try to make an effort to connect. Acknowledge how they are feeling. Are you feeling the same?

Connection is so important that it is one of the five Ways to Mental Wellbeing. The five Ways have been adopted by the Mental Wellness Network of Waterloo Region. You can read more about Connecting, and the other Ways, here.
